Students from Millbrook High School partnered through our Growing More Than Rain Gardens program to design and install a rain garden and cistern system at the home of two Millbrook teachers.
In September, we partnered with teachers and students from Millbrook High School to deliver a hands-on training through our Growing More Than Rain Gardens program. Students designed and installed a rain garden and cistern system at the home of Millbrook educators Nick and Sara Scanlon, transforming the property into a functional stormwater management system and outdoor learning site.
Working in two teams, students installed a native-plant rain garden to slow and absorb runoff and constructed a cistern system to capture roof runoff, including downspout re-routing, pump installation, overflow piping, and a passive drawdown system. The project provided real-world experience in sustainable infrastructure, collaboration, and problem-solving while strengthening our long-standing partnership with Millbrook High School.
