This streambank revitalization project along Bolin Creek was developed through a collaborative partnership with the Bolin Forest II Homeowners Association, focusing on restoring ecological stability and reducing erosion after significant storm damage.

Following Tropical Storm Chantal, the HOA identified three severely impacted sections of streambank within their six-acre property adjacent to Bolin Creek. To address these issues, our team worked closely with HOA leadership to co-author a successful grant application through the Town of Carrboro’s Green Neighbors Grant Program. Funding from this program helped support a broader cost-share effort in partnership with USS and 319 Nonpoint Source (NPS) funding.

Restoration work began with CFB Contracting, who removed downed trees obstructing the stream channel and contributing to instability. Cleared areas were then reseeded with native grasses to promote bank stabilization, improve soil retention, and encourage ecological recovery.

A key design decision involved leaving one strategically positioned fallen tree in place. This natural structure now serves to redirect water away from the previously weakened streambank and toward the newly stabilized area.
