South Garner High School Student Program

Nine students and three teachers from South Garner High School designed and installed a rain garden for a local beekeeper and honey producer as part of our Growing More Than Rain Gardens program.

The first work day was all about design. The students visited a local home and worked together to plan a 100-square-foot rain garden. Their goal? Create a space that not only helps manage rain runoff but also supports native pollinators and the nearby bee population.

On day two, the garden came to life. The students dug, planted, and shaped the space, turning their design into a functional and beautiful rain garden. The plants they chose will help filter stormwater and provide food and habitat for bees and other pollinators—making the garden a win for both the environment and the homeowner’s buzzing business.

This project was also made possible thanks to funding from the Burt’s Bees Foundation!
