Carrboro: Forest Court
This spring, the Forest Court Townhome community in Carrboro took a major step toward protecting local water quality with the installation of a 240-square-foot rain garden. Located near the 200 building block of homes, this garden is designed to capture rooftop runoff that would otherwise flow untreated into nearby Bolin Creek—a vital local waterway.
Student Involvement
The project was a collaborative effort through our Growing More Than Rain Gardens spring program. Orange County students worked side by side with residents to bring the garden to life. Together, they planted 150 native plants, applied mulch, and constructed a rock weir to help manage stormwater more effectively.
Funding for the project was made possible through a 60% cost-share with funds from the 319 grant through the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Division of Water Resources (DWR), and student participation was supported using funds from the Orange County Community Climate Action Grant.
