SERHS Student Program Fall 2025

In September, our Growing More Than Rain Gardens program, along with 6 teachers from our recent summer teacher training, brought together 22 students from South East Raleigh High School for a hands-on stormwater education experience.

As part of the program, the group visited Biltmore Hills Park, where they planted native species in two rain gardens and explored a nearby stream, searching for macroinvertebrates as indicators of water quality.

The learning didn’t stop there. At Lincolnville Church, students and teachers worked together to create designs for a rain garden, cistern, and community garden—imagining how these projects could capture rainwater, reduce runoff, and support the local community.

By combining science, creativity, and service, participants gained valuable tools to become stewards of their environment—helping us all grow more than rain gardens.
